EKO HOT BLOG reports that as Nigeria prepares for the upcoming 2023 presidential election, former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has stated that he is not desperate for power.
Atiku emphasized that he is running for the presidency to make Nigeria a better place.
Atiku made the statement in Abuja while receiving the endorsement of the Council of National Students Presidents of Nigeria for his presidential candidacy.
Represented by former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, Atiku said he has made a covenant with the Nigerian people to change things for the better.
“I’m not desperate for office. I’m running to change things. Under my watch, so many things will change. We need to appreciate President Muhammadu Buhari for insisting elections must be free and fair. We need to appreciate that move,” Atiku said.
He further warned Nigerians of the dangers of allowing “fraudsters” to take over power, particularly in light of the ongoing debate about the redesign of the Naira.
Atiku, who has been vying for the presidency since 1993 when he stepped down for the late MKO Abiola, served as Vice President under former President Olusegun Obasanjo for eight years from 1999.
The PDP presidential candidate’s declaration comes amid growing tension and uncertainty about the 2023 presidential election, with several political parties jostling for power. The election is expected to hold on February 18, 2023.
