EKO HOT BLOG reports that Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has filed a petition in a US court seeking to obtain more information about President Bola Tinubu’s academic records at Chicago State University.
Atiku’s petition argues that Tinubu’s claims about his educational qualifications are false and that he is not eligible to be president of Nigeria.
The petition has been met with mixed reactions, with some Nigerians supporting Atiku’s move and others questioning its legality.
A human rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, has described Atiku’s move as a “good development”. He said that it is important to get to the bottom of the matter, regardless of where the case is heard.
However, a constitutional lawyer, Kennedy Khanoba, has argued that the US court’s ruling may not be binding on Nigeria. He said that only a conviction in a Nigerian court would be enough to disqualify Tinubu from office.
The case is still ongoing, and it remains to be seen whether Atiku will be successful in his quest to prove that Tinubu is not eligible to be president.
