Atiku, Okowa React Over Fuel Tanker Explosion In Onitsha Market

The Peoples Democratic Party PDP flag bearer in the last presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has commensurated with the victims of the tanker explosion that rocked the city of Onitsha.

It was gathered that a tanker carrying fuel exploded in the Ochanja Market Area of Onitsha in Anambra state on Wednesday.

Atiku in his reaction lamented that the country had experienced such fire accidents that were preventable.

He further commensurated with the state government and the people of the state for the tragic loss of lives and property.

Atiku made this known in a tweet on Thursday via his twitter handle @atiku.

He said “We’ve had many preventable fuel tanker tragedies. I received with sadness, reports of a tanker explosion in Onitsha, Anambra State, which caused massive destruction to lives and properties in Ochanja Market area. My prayers and thoughts are with the families of the affected. -AA”

In the same vein, the Governor of Delta state, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has also commensurated with the family of the victims of the tanker explosion in Anambra state.

Okowa described the fire incident as ‘heartbreaking’ adding that, as a neighbor Delta state would stand with the Anambra state in this time of adversity.

He said via a tweet “The tragic images coming out of Onitsha of the raging fires are truly heartbreaking. As neighbors, Delta State will stand with our brothers and sisters in Anambra State at this difficult time and will give them our full support as they recover from this terrible incident.”

It was however gathered that the Anambra state government could not respond to the fire incident, however, the Delta state fire fighters were reported to have arrived the scene of the incident.

The number casualties and the worth of property destroyed have been yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.
