EKO HOT BLOG reports that two media houses owned by Chinyere Igwe, an ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, were hit by an explosion on Tuesday night in Port Harcourt, the capital city of Rivers State. The blast was believed to be caused by dynamite, and the facility’s generator house was badly affected.
Igwe, who is also a member of the House of Representatives, confirmed the incident and informed the police.
A detachment of police visited the site, and the DPO informed Igwe that bomb experts would conduct further investigations.
This attack on Igwe’s media houses has raised political tension in the state, particularly as the general elections approach.
This incident comes shortly after an assassination attempt on the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, Senator Magnus Abe, and his team in the Ahoada-West local government area of Rivers State.
The attack on Abe’s campaign train involved unknown gunmen who opened fire on the team, causing members of the campaign train to flee for safety. Abe had visited Ubeta and other communities in the area before the attack occurred.
These incidents are increasing concerns about the safety of politicians and their supporters as campaign activities intensify. The police have yet to make any arrests in connection with the attacks.
“We have informed the police, some detachment of the police came and the DPO called to inform me today some bomb experts are coming for further investigations,” Igwe said.
“We went there and they used two vehicles to block the road so that we cannot get there. Nigeria is a democracy and all of us have the right to go to the people and share our ideas with them. If you have ruled the people for seven years, the people should be happy with you. If people are not happy with you, it is because you are not doing well. Now, you are sending people’s children to come and block other politicians from talking to the people,” Abe said in response to the attack.
