Auchinleck Talbot Awarded Scottish Junior West Region Premiership Title Despite Being 12 Points Off Top
For many supporters, if your club is sitting in third position and 12 points adrift of the top spot, you’d be forgiven for believing the league campaign was over at this point in the season.
However, that’s not the case for Scottish junior club Auchinleck Talbot, who have been crowned champions of the West Region Premiership.
How has this happened? Well, the Scottish Junior Football Association decided to end their league season early on a points-per-game basis with all football in Scotland suspended until June.
Auchinleck currently occupies the third spot in the division with 41 points with Kilwinning Rangers top on 53. However, Kilwinning has played 25 games whereas Auchinleck has only played 16 – giving them nine games in hand over their rivals.
Their astonishing season so far though puts them on 2.56 points earned per game; Kilwinning can only boast 2.12 after their fixtures played.
Therefore, with the West Region Premiership playing 30 games a season, Auchinleck’s final tally puts them on 76.8 points (rounded up to 77), with Kilwinning on 63.6 (rounded up to 64).

It would cause delight for some fans, but Auchinleck boss Tommy Sloan has insisted that there will be no celebrations following the decision.
“There won’t be any celebrating and nobody is jumping up and down with joy at Auchinleck,” he told the Daily Record.
“A decision has been taken and it’s a surprising one from my point of view as I’d have preferred the season to have been declared null and void.
“What we have to accept is that it’s been an independent decision and none of the clubs involved has had any say in it.
“The people who made the decision did so by themselves and we as a club now have to move on. I’ve had no communication with other clubs but I would imagine Kilwinning won’t be happy.
“They have come out on the wrong side of this and we are the club which has benefited from this decision.”
Congratulations, Auchinleck.
