Lawn Tennis Stars, Roger Federer and Serena Williams were among the listings announced Thursday for the coronavirus-disturbed Australian Open, with tournament director Craig Tiley promising a “Happy Slam” after months of meticulous planning.
“There are so many big plot lines for AO 2021,” Tiley said “Serena targets her eighth title while Novak, who often appears invincible at Melbourne Park, is going for a record ninth title. Our own world No. 1 Ash Barty will be back at the Grand Slam, just like Roger Federer after his injury.”
The first Grand Slam of the year, which will be played in front of at least 50 percent of the usual crowd, was extended by three weeks to February 8, EKO HOT BLOG gathered.
All players are required to complete a mandatory 14-day quarantine upon arrival, during which they will be continuously tested for COVID-19 but authorized to practice five hours a day in a bio-safe bubble.

“Although the AO will be somewhat different from previous years, the safety of all is our top priority,” said Ms. Tiley. We have the opportunity to put in place a very safe and happy slam, and give players the experience of the competition ahead crowds again, which they missed for the better part of the year.”
The men’s and women’s qualifiers will be held in Doha and Dubai on January 10-13, respectively, and the players will arrive in Melbourne from January 15 on special charter flights.
