A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi in Abeokuta, said the sad incident occurred when a truck rammed into the motorcycles and their passengers.
He said while four persons were declared dead in the accident, one person was said to have sustained injury.
According to him, the accident was caused by a mechanical fault which resulted in a brake failure, adding that the truck then rammed into the motorcycles in the Enugada area of Lafenwa in the state capital, killing four persons on the spot.
“The truck developed a brake failure while descending from Itoku enroute Ago-Oba towards Enugada, Lafenwa. It rammed into two motorcycles and a Honda CRV, killing the two motorcyclists and the two pillion passengers they were both carrying, while the driver of the Honda CRV Car was injured.
“Initially, six were presumed dead including the injured Honda CRV driver and a pedestrian but they were revived due to the efforts of the first responders and members of the public who gathered at the scene of the crash.
“Unfortunately, the driver and the motor boy disappeared and were nowhere to be found by the time the truck stopped.
“The bodies of the dead victims have been deposited at a hospital by the Police,” he added.
