Avoid Activities That Will Lead To Spread Of AIDS Today – NACA Forewarns

• National Agency for the Control of AIDS have come out to issue a warning to Nigerian youth going into the February 14 celebrations.

• In a statement by its Director General, Gambo Aliyu, he asks youths to desist from activities that could increase their chances of contacting the deadly virus.

• New HIV/AIDS contractions are highest in the age gap of 15-24 years of age.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Director General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Gambo Aliyu, has issued a warning to Nigerian youths ahead of the Valentine’s Day celebration on February 14.

In a statement signed by the agency’s Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Toyin Aderiabe, NACA highlighted the dangers of unprotected sex and the rising number of HIV/AIDS infections during this season.

Aliyu revealed that Nigeria has atotal of 1.9 million people living with the Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV), and the spread of the disease is of great concern to the agency. He pleaded with Nigerians, especially the youths, to refrain from indiscriminate sexual activities during this time and encouraged them to love wisely.

“As we express love for our partners during this Valentine’s Day, remember to love wisely,” Aliyu said in the statement. “Your health and productivity count to both your nuclear and extended families and the entire country. Nigeria stands to benefit greatly from your contributions. So, I urge you to desist from practices that might expose you to risks of contracting HIV/AIDS or other sexually transmitted diseases as we commemorate this special day. Once again, I urge you to love wisely, share love, and not the virus.”

The DG NACA also pointed out that new HIV infections are highest among young people aged 15-24 years, with 4.2% of this population being infected. He emphasized that these statistics are discouraging and emphasized the need to prioritize condom options as a preventive measure for those who cannot abstain from sex.

In conclusion, NACA is urging Nigerian youths to exercise caution and take necessary precautions during the Valentine’s Day celebration to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.
