According to reports, the prominent traditional ruler visited President Tinubu to personally express his gratitude for the conferment of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), Nigeria’s second-highest national honor, on him.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that a statement from the palace of the Awujale, signed by Aremo Tunde Oladunjoye, the Onigegewura Akile Ijebu, noted the monarch’s appreciation. “The conferment of the GCON on me was a great honor, and I am truly grateful to the President and the Federal Government,” Oba Adetona stated during the visit.
The palace also emphasized that the private visit allowed the Awujale to thank the President directly.
It is worth recalling that President Tinubu had conferred the GCON honor on Oba Adetona in May 2024, during the monarch’s 90th birthday celebration, recognizing his decades of service and influence as a revered leader.
