Renowned philanthropist Sir Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu has made a landmark contribution to Nigeria’s journalism sector by donating a state-of-the-art Media Resource Centre to the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) in Lagos.
EKOT HOT BLOG reports that the multi-million naira facility was officially commissioned during an elaborate ceremony held at the institution on Wednesday.
The new Media Resource Centre, which boasts a 350-seat auditorium and is outfitted with cutting-edge facilities, is expected to enhance learning, research, and innovation for budding journalists.
Known for his philanthropic efforts, Adebutu—popularly referred to as “Baba Ijebu”—has been widely celebrated for his dedication to educational advancement in Nigeria.
The event saw distinguished guests in attendance, including the Chairman of the NIJ Governing Council, Aremo Olusegun Osoba; the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun; Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso; and the Provost of NIJ, Dr. Gbenga Adefaye, among other prominent figures.
Chairman Osoba praised Adebutu for his steadfast support of journalism, noting that the Media Resource Centre is an invaluable asset to the institution and a promising boost for the country’s media landscape.
The centre, designed as a modern learning and collaborative space, will support NIJ students and faculty in elevating journalism standards across Nigeria.
