Eko Hot Blog reports that the Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested another inmate who escaped the Kuje correctional centre in the federal capital territory (FCT).
Recall that in July 2022, some gunmen in large number attacked the Kuje correctional centre, leading to the escape of many prisoners.
The police have since been on the heels of the escapees, arresting some while a few others remain at large.
On Thursday, another escapee, identified as Salisu Buhari, was apprehended by the police in a chance encounter.
In a statement on Sunday, the police spokesperson in Nasarawa, Ramhan Nansell, said Buhari was arrested with one Zubairu Ali over motorcycle theft but was later discovered to be one of the escapees of the Kuje prison break.
“On 6/4/2023 at about 2200hrs, police operatives attached to Nasarawa division in a sting operation arrested the duo of Zubairu Ali 27yrs and Salisu Buhari 24yrs for motorcycle theft in Nasarawa LGA of Nasarawa state,” he said.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are responsible for most motorcycle snatching and theft in Nasarawa LGA and its environs.
“Upon interrogation, Salisu Buhari confessed to having escaped from Kuje Prison when the facility was attacked last year, linked up with his crony, and went into criminal venture.”
The police spokesperson added that the Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa, Maiyaki Baba, has directed that the case be transferred to the state criminal investigation department for further investigation.
