Bad roads: We’re still waiting for Julius Berger, Imolites remind Uzodimma

  • Bad roads, Imolites remind Uzodimma

With virtually no motorable road in the state and the frustration occasioned by it, Imolites have called on Governor Hope Uzodimma to quicken the arrival of Julius Berger Construction company which his administration was earlier said to have been awarded the contracts of Owerri- Orlu road and Owerri – Okigwe road.

The ongoing rainy season has exposed the state of almost total infrastructural decay in the state with more than 95% of the roads dilapidated.

This state of affairs led to wild jubilation among many Imolites who were informed that Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration had awarded the construction of Owerri-Orlu and Owerri-Okigwe roads to Julius Berger.

Several months after that, the Owerri-Orlu and Owerri-Okigwe roads remain the worst in the country.

Naze- Nekede-Ihiagwa-Obinze roads, are among hundreds of other major roads in the state, that are still begging for attention.

Mr James Ubah, a trader at Alaba market, Naze, who spoke to our reporter expressed his disappointment and anger at the state government, for lifting the hopes of the people and abandoning them at last.

He said that it would have been better, if the government had not mentioned Julius Berger at all.

A civil servant who gave her name as Mrs Njoku, said she never believed that Governor Uzodimma had awarded any contract to Julius Berger, wondering where the contract money would come from.

Mrs Njoku used the opportunity, to advise politicians and leaders to learn to be honest with the people and prayed for God to have mercy on the state.

The state government have been urged by the citizenry, to intervene quickly, before the capital city of Owerri is completely cut off.

This is because all roads leading to Owerri, are dilapidated and in need of urgent attention.
