Zamfara Police spokesperson, ASP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident and assured that the Commissioner of Police had instructed operatives to take immediate action to rescue the victims.
A resident of Moriki community told the BBC Hausa Service on Thursday that the bandits have been terrorizing the area and had previously kidnapped other locals.
” The bandits claimed that their cows were killed by the Commander in the community. They attacked the community and went from house to house picking our people,and gave today as the deadline for us to pay the N50 million,” he said.
He said any time they needed money,the bandits had often, attacked the community to kidnap people and kept them in captivity until ransom was paid.
” Not long ago, they collected N20 million from community members to allow the locals access their farms. The community is not secured at all ,” he said.
