  • Banditry has continued to ravage large swathes of northern-western and central Nigeria with its perpetrators stealing animals, kidnapping for ransom, killing anyone who dares confront them.

Armed men, suspected to be bandits, on Sunday blocked two major roads in Sokoto, killed two persons and abducted over 100 commuters in two separate attacks.

It was gathered that the armed men invaded some major roads in the state, including the Sokoto-Gusau road where, at least, 60 road users were whisked away to an unknown destination on Sunday.

The bandits also blocked the Wurno-Goronyo road where two persons were killed and an unspecified number of others were also abducted.

The General Manager of the Sokoto Mass Transit, Yahuza Abubakar Chika, who raised the alarm on Sunday night, said one of their buses conveying passengers was also affected.

“The driver of the bus and one other passenger escaped unhurt, but the rest of the passengers were whisked into the bush by the bandits,” he said.

The Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, could not be reached as at press time.
