EKO HOT BLOG reports that the victory, achieved away at the RCDE Stadium, confirmed Barcelona’s 28th league title with two matches left to play, capping off a season marked by consistent brilliance and attacking flair.
After a goalless first half, the breakthrough came in the 53rd minute courtesy of 17-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal, who calmly converted to put the visitors ahead and silence the home crowd. The match saw further drama in the 80th minute when Espanyol defender Leandro Cabrera was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge, reducing the hosts to 10 men and effectively ending their hopes of salvaging a result.
Barcelona put the game beyond doubt deep into stoppage time. Fermin López added the second in the 95th minute, sending the away supporters into rapturous celebration as the referee blew the final whistle moments later.
The win takes Barcelona to 85 points after 36 matches, with a record of 27 wins, four draws, and five losses. They’ve been lethal in front of goal, netting 97 times while conceding just 36, resulting in a commanding goal difference of +61.
The title win also secures Barcelona’s qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League group stage. Real Madrid trail behind in second place with 78 points, followed by Atlético Madrid and Athletic Club in the top four.
