Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi, suffered a calf injury during his first training session back at the club having been given extended leave following Argentina’s run to the semi-finals at this summer’s Copa America.
Messi, who only returned to the fold today, was forced to pull out of the session with what doctors have diagnosed as a grade one calf strain.
It was announced that he would face a three-month suspension from international football plus a heavy fine after his controversial comments about perceived favouritism towards Brazil at the Copa America and now he is set to miss his club’s trip to the United States ahead of the forthcoming season.
He watched from the bench as Barca came from behind to beat Arsenal 2-1 at Camp Nou on Sunday and is unlikely to play any part as Barca face Napoli twice in the USA in the coming days.
