It should be remembered that the nation played host to FIFA Men’s world cup tournament ending of 2022.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Qatar has been selected as the host country for the 2027 men’s Basketball World Cup, marking the first time the country has hosted the prestigious event.
The decision was announced by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) on Friday, further bolstering Qatar’s growing reputation as a destination for major global sports events. Germany will host the women’s version of the tournament a year earlier, in 2026.

Qatar has previously hosted the men’s football World Cup, which took place in November-December of 2022, and will now add basketball’s showpiece event to its list of sporting accolades. All matches in the tournament will be held at existing venues in the capital city of Doha.
FIBA president Hamane Niang expressed his pleasure at being able to award the 2027 tournament to Qatar, and the country’s selection highlights its growing reputation as a destination for major sports events. Qatar has invested heavily in sports infrastructure and facilities in recent years, with the goal of establishing itself as a global sports hub.
The draw for the 2023 men’s Basketball World Cup is set to take place on Saturday in the Philippine capital of Manila.
The Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan will host this year’s tournament, which is scheduled to run from August 25 to September 10. Despite Qatar’s selection as the host country for the 2027 tournament, the country did not qualify for this year’s competition, with 32 other teams participating instead.
Spain is the reigning world champion in men’s basketball, having won the title in the 2019 tournament held in China.
