EKO HOT BLOG reports that in an interview with Arise TV, Basketmouth alleged that movie producers receive large sums of money from streaming platforms but use only 10% of the funds for production, while the rest is spent on luxury items like houses and cars.
He further accused some producers of pressuring actors to share their payments when streaming platforms bypass them and pay actors directly.
While Basketmouth refrained from naming specific producers, he stated that those responsible for the embezzlement are well aware of their actions.
He explained, “There was a lot of money when these streaming platforms came in, and these producers use only 10 percent of the funds to make the movies. Over 70 percent of these producers, to the extent that the streaming platforms had to pay the actors directly, but some of the producers coerce the actors to give up the monies. They know themselves, but I won’t mention names.”
This revelation comes amid reports that the international streaming giant, Netflix, has halted funding for Nigerian filmmakers to produce original content.
