EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Governorship and House of Assembly elections are yet to commence in parts of Bauchi State as some ad-hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) protested the non-payment of their transport allowances.
As a result of the occurrence, the deployment of the election officials and voting materials to their respective polling units in Bauchi was delayed as of reporting time.
The incident occurred at the Baba-Sidi collation center in the Bauchi Local Government Area of the state, where the staff refused to leave after collecting the election materials.
But the intervention of senior INEC officials resolved the infraction and subsequently paid the ad-hoc staff at 9:15 AM, this news platform is told.
In Bauchi State, the incumbent Governor, Bala Mohammed is seeking re-election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mohammed is contesting the governorship seat with 13 other party candidates, including Senator Halliru Jika of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) as well as APC’s candidate, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who is Nigeria’s immediate past Chief of Air Staff.
