Bauchi lawmakers back Lawan, Gbajabiamila

Bauchi State lawmakers in the Senate and the House of Representatives yesterday endorsed Senator Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila for both Senate presidency and House Speakership position, respectively.

In a communiqué by the 11 lawmakers and party leaders, the lawmakers noted that “first and foremost, we, the legislators representing Bauchi State on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 9th National Assembly, would like to congratulate our great party on its successful outing at the recently-concluded National Elections.

“The resounding victory reinforces the strong belief of the vast majority of Nigerians in the manifesto and the path to national prosperity that is being courageously driven by the APC.

‘We further recognise that to more robustly and efficiently deliver on its manifesto and promises to Nigerians, the wishes of our Great Party must be supreme and must supersede personal and political aspiration of party members.

“Particularly, we strongly believe that the Party’s wishes on the well-considered choice of leadership for the two legislative houses of the National Assembly are critical to deploying most innovative legislative solutions to the issues facing our nation.

“After giving due consideration to party supremacy and the impeccable character, wide acceptability track record, and legislative nous of Party’s choice of leaders for the 9th National Assembly, we hereby align ourselves with the Party position on the matter and declare our unalloyed, unequivocal and unqualified support for Senator Ahmed Lawan and Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila as President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, respectively.

“In the spirit of parliamentary cooperation and collaboration, we hereby invite all Federal lawmakers (re-elected and newly-elected), especially those elected on the platform of our Great Party – APC – to come together even in the face of politics of calumny and divisive rhetorics and vote for Ahmed Lawan as Senate President and Femi Gbajabiamila as Speaker of the House of Representatives of our dear nation.

“These two thoroughbred parliamentarians have continued to push the boundaries of legislative efficiencies and accountability thus personally exemplifying the ethos of APC. Their respective constituents and distinguished colleagues attest to their exemplary leadership and ability to galvanise support on both sides of the legislative aisle especially in critical national moments.

“These sterling qualities must have weighed heavily in the minds of the Party hierarchy and it is obvious that the Party supports Distinguished Senator Ahmed Lawan and Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila to lead the legislative arm of government.”
