Lyon, 50 joined politics in the Third Republic, as a member of the defunct, National Republican Congress.
He contested and won a councilorship election at Ward 4 in Southern Ijaw, but the military incursion aborted his tenure in 1997. He went on to become a founding member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Southern Ijaw.
He was later appointed as the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Apoi Olodiama Local Government Development Center in 2000. In 2015, he decamped to the All Progressives Congress and contested the Bayelsa State governorship primary election in September 2019, where he emerged as the party’s candidate.
On 18 November 2019, he contested in the governorship elections and was declared the governor-elect of Bayelsa State by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
However, a Day to his swearing-in as Governor, his Election was invalidated by the Supreme Court of Nigeria. The Apex Court ruled that his running mate, Degi Erenienyo Wangagra submitted a fake certificate to INEC. Lyon currently serves as National Vice-chairman, South-South of the All Progressives Congress.
Sylva, 56 started his Political Career in 1992 when he won a Seat to represent Brass Consistuency in the Old Rivers State House of Assembly, a position he held until November 1993.
In 2004, he was appointed as Special Adviser by the then Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Edmund Dakouru, Sylva served in that capacity until 2006 when he resigned his appointment to run for Governor of Bayelsa State under the PDP platform.
However, he became the Governor of Bayelsa State on the 29th of May 2007, His Election was nullified on the 15th of April, 2008 after his main challenger, Ebitimi Amgbare of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) dragged him to the Supreme Court.
In a rerun Election held on the 24th of May, 2008, Sylva retained his Seat. He served until 2012. His re-election bid was unsuccessful as he lost to Hon. Seriake Dickson at the PDP Primaries.
He later decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and in 2015, Sylva made another attempt to return as Governor under the APC platform but lost to the then Governor Seriake Dickson of the PDP.
However, on the 21st of July 2019, He was appointed as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Lokpobiri, 53 was elected as Member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly in 1999, he also became the Pioneer Speaker of the House and served until 2001.
Later in 2007, Lokpobiri was elected to represent Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the National Assembly under the PDP flag, Shortly after his inaguration in June 2007, He was appointed as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports.
Senator Lokpobiri was re-elected for a Second-term during the April 2011 General Elections. He joined the All Progressives Congress in 2015 and in November that year, he was appointed as Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development by President Muhammadu Buhari, a position he occupied until May 2019.
Lokpobiri participated in the 2019 Bayelsa State Gubernatorial Primaries but lost to Chief David Lyon.
