The International Human Right Commission IHRC, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies to take proactive measures in tackling insecurity and logistical issues ahead of the Saturday’s gubernatorial polls in Bayelsa and Kogi State.
IHRC revealed that the commission has established two command centers in Bayelsa and Kogi state adding that, the command centers would monitor the Saturday poll.
The commission also called on the governors of the both states to be patriotic in their conducts.
The commssion said “show concern for their citizens during the elections so that the outcome can be acceptable to all concerned.”
The human right commission made the call during a press briefing on Thursday by its spokeperson Dr. Kenneth Anozie.
He said “they have been reported cases of violence during the electioneering in these two states, but with particular reference to Kogi State where some security agencies have been indicted for partisanship.
“The International Human Rights Commission, Geneva, (United Nations Affiliate) Nigeria Committee has called on the Nigeria Security Agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to immediately address the concerns raised by the electorates, Monitoring and Observer Agencies, and opposition parties in the two states where election is to be conducted on Saturday, 16th November 2019.
