The Bayelsa State Government has announced the sudden passing of Mrs. Elizabeth Bidei, the Commissioner for Women Affairs. The news of her death, which occurred on Monday, December 30, 2024, was described as a shocking and profound loss.

The announcement was made in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, on Tuesday.

“The Governor, Senator Douye Diri, and the government of Bayelsa State received the devastating news of Mrs. Bidei’s demise with deep sorrow,” the statement read.

Mrs. Elizabeth succumbed to a prolonged battle with breast cancer, which was further complicated by a stroke and a heart attack that ultimately worsened her condition.

Mrs. Bidei, a key member of the state’s executive council, was lauded for her tireless work to promote the welfare and empowerment of women in Bayelsa. Her contributions as a public servant were highlighted as pivotal in shaping policies and programs that positively impacted the state’s residents.

Governor Diri expressed condolences to the bereaved family, including her husband, Chief Jackson Bidei, and their children. “Our hearts go out to her family during this difficult time. Her life’s work profoundly impacted our state and its people,” the statement added.

Mrs. Bidei was remembered as a dedicated public servant, loyal party member, and compassionate leader who consistently prioritized the needs of others. Her commitment to women’s empowerment and improving lives in the state left a lasting legacy.

Her death, the government noted, has created a significant void in the executive council and the community she served passionately.
