Bayelsa Poll: INEC Makes Arrangements For Physically Challenged Persons Ahead of Poll
The Independent National Electoral Commission has said it had consluded plans to ensure that all physically challenged persons were not disenfranchised in the forthcoming gubernatorial poll slated for November 16.
The commission’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Bayelsa state, Monday Udoh, disclosed this at a one day training voter education and sign language interpretation organised by INEC in Yenagoa on Wednesday.
Udoh stressed that making provision for physically challenged persons was an underlined principle of the United Nations Convention on rights of physically challenged persons which was adopted in 2006. Adding that, the commission would do everything in its capacity to ensure their inclusion in the electoral process.
He said “The objective is to train civil society organisations and persons to carry out voter education at the grass roots for the governorship election.”
