Eko Hot Blog reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to commence the collation and announcement of the final results for the Bayelsa State governorship election held on Saturday.

Originally scheduled for Saturday, the commission postponed the collation to Sunday due to only having results from one out of the eight local government areas by that time.

Farouk Kuta, the INEC returning officer, explained during a briefing at the state headquarters in Yenagoa on Saturday night that the collation delay was prompted by uncertainty regarding the readiness of results from other local government areas before midnight.

Consequently, he rescheduled the collation to begin on Sunday at 10 a.m.

In the off-cycle Bayelsa State governorship election held on Saturday, a total of 16 candidates, including two women, participated. Simultaneously, governorship elections took place in Kogi and Imo states.

On Saturday, voters exercised their civic right at 2,242 designated polling units across the state.
