Big Brother Naija Season 5 Housemate, Laycon has attracted a lot of reactions from Nigerians after he revealed to his fellow housemates that his genotype is SC, that is sickle cell.

Many people on the internet have not heard about the SC genotype.

Hence a Nigerian doctor identified as Aproko doctor on Twitter took his account to educate people on the SC genotype and he also talked about Laycon.

The Nigerian doctor revealed that the SS and SC genotype are very similar because the two genotypes cause the sickle cell disease and this sparked a lot of reaction in the comment section of the Nigerian doctor’s post.

The Nigerian doctor also said that Laycon had the SC variant which is a milder form but unfortunately the SC variant has the most symptoms of the sickle cell disease.

In his words, the Nigerian doctor said

“For those asking: The SC gene and the SS gene are similar in the fact that both cause the Sickle Cell Disease. The combination of two S genes from either parent or one S and one C from either parent. Laycon has the SC variant. Which is a milder form, with most of the symptoms”.

Many Nigerians on twitter thanked the Nigerian doctor for the educative post while others expressed their sympathy for Laycon. See the reaction of some Nigerians below:

” You don’t have to know that Laycon has the sickle cell gene in order to be kind to him, or not bodyshame him. A lot of people have battles they fight despite walking around with a smile on their face. Be kind to one another We all are fighting battles”.
