I have written a piece on this as we have been hearing rumors that workers will be retrenched.
Let me take you to a memory lane when a related issue happened in France. It was about Yellow-vest.
Yellow vest motion was politically motivated after a formal request by the citizens of France in May 2018, that rising of fuel price; the high cost of living and the government’s tax on working and middle class should be drastically reduced.
Moreover, as the government had not looked into this motion, it later led to mass demonstrations on 17 November 2018. This political movement spread widely to another part of Europe and the Middle East where the protesters had called for lower taxes and the raising of the minimum wage.
The protesters from France called for the resignation of Emmanuel Macron as president of France if these agendas were not considered.
However, it will be highly appreciable in Nigeria, if Nigerians see the struggles of Nigerian labor Congress as a struggle to be fought by all Nigerians because retrenching workers after coronavirus will be unfortunate, barbaric, ridiculous and totally unacceptable. The fact still remains, Nigeria is a blessed country. Why this now!
