Becky Danladi Wins Africa’s First Indoor Golf Championship In Abuja
Organized by Olusegun Runsewe, President of the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF), the event saw participation from over 150 lady golfers at the Golf and Health Signature venue.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Danladi secured the championship’s top honor with a total gross score of 43.

Competing with a handicap of 24, she returned gross scores of 14 in the indoor event and 29 in the outdoor event, giving her the lowest total gross score in the competition.
Close behind was Tessy Johnson, also from TYB IGRCC, who finished with a total gross score of 44, having returned 16 in the indoor event and 28 in the outdoor event.
Staff Sergeant Maureen Apute, Lady Captain of TYB IGRCC, secured third place after a count-back decision against Nanwor Mamven of IBB International Golf and Country Club.
Both players posted scores of 15 (indoor) and 32 (outdoor), resulting in a total gross score of 47.
Susan Marcus of TYB IGRCC rounded out the top five, with a total gross score of 48, scoring 18 in the indoor event and 30 in the outdoor event.
In the auxiliary prizes category, Maryam Atta-Bala of IBB IGCC won the prize for nearest to the pin, with a distance of 3 feet, while Marcus Susan of TYB IGRCC came in as runner-up in the category, with a distance of 4 feet.

The longest drive award was claimed by Juliet Umolu of IBB IGCC, with an impressive distance of 278 meters. Grace Ihonvbere of IBB IGCC received the prize for the best indoor score, with a gross score of 13.
Additionally, Dame Julie Donli, Lady Captain of IBB International Golf and Country Club, was awarded the title of best-dressed lady golfer of the championship.
Runsewe expressed pride and joy in hosting the championship, the first of its kind in Africa, highlighting the significance of the event for Nigeria.
“I am so delighted to see that Nigeria is making another first. The indoor golf and short game is the first of its kind in the whole of Africa.
“As the giant of Africa, we must take the lead. We cannot sit down and be waiting for other African countries to show us the way.
“So, what we have succeeded in doing here today is the beginning of greater things to come in terms of the growth and development of golf in the country.
“This is the way other advanced countries grew the game in their part of the world.
“They started well and early, and that’s exactly what we are also trying to achieve here at the Golf and Health Signature,” he said.
