34 Beggars, Scavengers Detained In Abuja Operation
A joint security team in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) detained 34 individuals on Monday, including 15 beggars and 19 scavengers, following a deadline issued by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The FCT Administration announced that those detained will be taken to a rehabilitation center for vocational training, while those refusing to participate will be returned to their home states.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the operation, deemed a “national assignment” by FCT Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu, involved personnel from the Police, Military, DSS, NSCDC, and other paramilitary agencies. Disu instructed security personnel to maintain professionalism while strictly enforcing the ministerial directive.
“This operation will last for the first two weeks, after which we’ll assess progress and determine next steps,” he stated.
Director of Security for the FCT Administration, Adamu Gwary, represented by Dr. Peter Olumuji, explained that the operation is being conducted around the clock and organized into four main areas: the metro city center, airport road, Kubwa-Gwarinpa axis, and the Asokoro-AYA-Nyanya axis.

He reported that, while beggars in the city center went into hiding, security teams arrested 15 beggars and 19 scavengers in other regions.
