The two police officers were seen standing by and doing nothing to stop the attack.
Reacting to the criticism received by the police, Hundeyin asked what people expected the unarmed officers to do in such a scenario. He explained that political parties agreed before the election that officers in any polling unit must not be armed, so it was impossible for them to intervene.
Hundeyin further noted that the police officers were in a difficult situation and could not have taken any action that might have put their lives in danger. He emphasized that the safety of the officers was of utmost importance to the police command.
The spokesperson called on Nigerians to desist from attacking the police and rather channel their grievances through the appropriate channels. He assured the public that the police command was committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property during the ongoing elections.
