Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has dissolved the state executive council, retaining only the position of Chief of Staff. The decision was announced at the end of the 12th executive council meeting of 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the dissolution affects all commissioners in the state cabinet. However, the former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Moses Atagher, has been appointed as the new Chief of Staff, with immediate effect.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Atagher, a seasoned administrator and former acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank, is expected to leverage his wide experience in governance to support the administration’s objectives.
Governor Alia commended the outgoing commissioners for their service and contributions over the past two years. He acknowledged their efforts in driving key policies and initiatives, and encouraged those who may not return to office to remain steadfast in their support for the government and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He also emphasized the need for continued unity and commitment within the party, especially as the administration pushes forward with its development plans for the state.
Reacting on behalf of the former executive council, Barrister Bemsen Mnyim thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve. He described the experience as enriching and pledged continued loyalty to the administration.

The affected commissioners have been directed to hand over to the permanent secretaries in their respective ministries to ensure a smooth transition.
