Benue Governor-elect Comments On Benue Killings

  • Benue State Governor-elect, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has called on security agencies to find the perpetrators and end the recurring killings in the state.

  • In a statement released to newsmen in Abuja on Friday, Fr Alia expressed his sympathies to the families of those who died in affected community in the State over the incessant killings.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in the wake of the killings of forty-six people in Umogidi community of Entekpa-Adoka in Otukpo Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue state, the Governor-elect, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has called on security agencies to find the perpetrators and end the recurring killings in the state.

In a statement released to newsmen in Abuja on Friday, Fr Alia expressed his sympathies to the families of the deceased and condoled the community over the killing. He described the incident as a tragedy that has left the entire state in mourning.

The Reverend Governor-elect promised to work closely with security agencies and communities to end the insecurity and killings that have plagued the state for some time now. He stated that on his assumption of office on May 29, he would collaborate with relevant stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the insecurity challenges in the state.

“I am saddened over the killings, and I call on the government at all levels to be more proactive to address the security challenges in the state,” he said. “Government should also stay close to the bereaved families in these trying times.”

Fr Alia further stated that he would prioritize the restoration of peace and security in the state, as it is critical to the development and progress of the people. He called for calm and urged the people of the affected community and the entire state to remain vigilant and law-abiding while assuring them of his administration’s commitment to their safety and wellbeing.

“My fraternal prayers are with the souls of the deceased to rest in perfect peace, and peace should take prominence in the communities, in the interest of all and sundry,” he added.
