Benue Govt To Rename Varsity After Late Governor Moses Adasu
Benue State Government has moved to rename the State University in Makurdi, the state capital in honor of its founder and former governor, the late Rev. Fr. Moses Adasu.
Governor Hyacinth Alia made the announcement on Saturday during the university’s combined convocation ceremony held on campus.
Alia revealed that an executive bill for the renaming has been forwarded to the State House of Assembly. Once approved, the institution will be officially renamed Reverend Father Moses Adasu University.
Rev. Fr. Adasu, who was both a Catholic priest and governor of Benue State from 1991 to 1992, established the university as a key part of his legacy to improve access to higher education in the state.
“As a way of honouring the founder of this institution, our administration has sent an executive bill to the state assembly for this university to be named after the founder, Rev Fr Moses Adasu.” Alia stated during his address.
In addition to the renaming initiative, the governor announced the establishment of a satellite campus in Adikpo, Kwande Local Government Area, to expand access to university education for residents of Benue North East Senatorial District.
Alia also pledged 500 computers for the university’s computer-based test center and a full master’s degree scholarship for all graduating students who achieved first-class honors.
He urged the graduates to be role models by upholding values of integrity and hard work. “True success is not only about personal growth but also about making a positive impact on society,” he said.
