Eko Hot Blog reports that a Nigerian man in the United States (US) has gone viral for returning $3,767 and about 10,000 Chinese Yuan to a woman.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Nigerian carried the woman as a passenger when she forgot her bag in the driver’s car.
However, both parties reconnected and the driver returned the bag which housed a travel passport and cash in dollars and Chinese Yuan.
In a viral video, the Nigerian was seen returning the money to his passenger as she expressed gratitude to the kind-hearted driver with words and a $100 note.
“You see the woman is very happy. I prefer this $100 more than the money that is not my own. I know some people go [will] say ahhh, ‘you don miss opportunity’,” he said in pidgin.
“Na lie,” he retorted, saying, “this is the best way to live life. This is the best way. When something is not your own, it’s not your own.”
Referring to the Asian woman’s $100 note gift, the US-based Nigerian driver said he felt like he was holding $100 million. “That’s just the truth,” he said.
“I returned $3,767. Then, another 10,000 Chinese Yuan. When you convert that to naira, that is over N5 million.”
He disclosed that he arrived the US from Nigeria last week in search of good fortune.
“Na last week I come from Nigeria from naija. I dey look for money. I don pay bills na im make I carry my car after church say make I hustle,” the Nigerian added in pidgin.
He emphasised that his decision to return the passenger’s money “is the best way to live life.”
“That one no be opportunity,” he said, referring to the missing money.
The driver noted that, although he had made only $30 that afternoon, he resisted the temptation to make away with someone else’s money.
He expressed fulfilment and happiness for the joy he gave the woman.
The honest driver, therefore, implored other people to imitate his action, stressing “that’s the best way to life.”
In the video, the Asian woman could be heard thanking the Nigerian profusely even though she struggled to speak English.
