Biafra: After Killing Of IPOB Members, Nnamdi Kanu Reveals His Next Move

The leader the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, says he’s often weighed down by the enormity of the Biafra cause so much so that he fights the urge to withdraw from the struggle for its actualisation.

Kanu’s pensive remark and sober reflection is coming in the wake of the violent crackdown on IPOB Members on Sunday at Emene in Enugu state during which members of the group were reportedly killed.

The Department of State Services (DSS) had also accused IPOB of killing two of its operatives in the clash.

Kanu, who made allusions to biblical events and scriptures, likened  himself to Jesus Christ who said ti God at the Garden of Gethsemane “if it be possible, let this cup pass from me” when faced with temptations.

Kanu also implored his fellow secessionists not to despair following the death of their comrades, adding that they could draw solace from the fact that they died while fighting for freedom and they owe it to them not let their deaths be in vain by working toward the realisation of Biafra emancipation.

“In my most private moments – when I reflect on this struggle and its fallouts, I have often been tempted, like Christ, to ask that this cup be passed from me,” The Sun newspaper quoted Kanu to have said.

“I am sure you all feel the same in many fleeting moments of despair that is common with the fragile human spirit.

“So, as we mourn this latest mass murder of our people, let us all take some comfort that they didn’t die in vain, they died in honour, they fell in defence of freedom and their precious blood will be best requited by our collective and abiding resolve to never back down until Biafra is restored.”

Kanu, however, said he will continue in the fight for the emancipation of Igbo people from attacks and persecution rather than back down from the struggle.
