Biafra: President Tinubu Will Ensure Nnamdi Kanu’s Release – Bianca Ojukwu Assures

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has announced that President Bola Tinubu will facilitate the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The declaration was made during the 13th memorial anniversary of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu in Owerri on Tuesday. Ambassador Ojukwu emphasized that Kanu’s release is essential for peace in the Southeast and the wider country.

“President Tinubu understands the importance of Kanu’s release. It will expose the masqueraders behind the violence and help restore order. I will do whatever it takes to ensure His Excellency grants this request,” Ojukwu said.

She explained that releasing Kanu would distinguish genuine freedom fighters from criminals causing turmoil in the Southeast, which would help to promote stability.

Ojukwu also called for collective action to tackle the region’s growing insecurity, emphasizing that the Igbo people are known for their enterprise and strong communal ties. She stated that Igbos do not harm their own and urged the region to unite in reclaiming the land from criminal elements.

The ambassador also condemned the violent “sit-at-home” orders in the Southeast, stating that they stifle economic activities and contradict the ideals of self-determination.

“Ndigbo are enterprising and their brother’s keepers. We must reclaim our land and continue to propagate the ideals for which Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu stood,” she said.

It is worth noting that Nnamdi Kanu has been in detention since June 2015, after being arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Lagos. He has been charged with treason, terrorism, and other offenses, and despite being granted bail several times, he remains incarcerated.
