Biafra: Simon Ekpa’s Detention Continues as Finnish Govt Frees Two Accomplices

Two individuals arrested alongside Simon Ekpa, a factional leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), have reportedly been released by the Finnish government.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Ekpa was detained on November 21, 2024, along with four others, is accused of involvement in terror-related activities, including incitement to violence and funding terrorism in Nigeria. Following his arrest, the Päijät-Häme district court ordered his detention on charges of spreading terrorist propaganda via social media.

The five suspects have remained in custody since November 2024. However, sources informed The Nation that Finnish authorities have released two of Ekpa’s alleged associates. The identities of those released and the reasons for their release remain undisclosed.

While confirming that Ekpa remains in custody, Finnish officials declined to provide further details.

This development follows a formal extradition request by Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, who confirmed that the Nigerian government had submitted the necessary documentation to the Finnish authorities.

“Legal action is going to be taken accordingly,” Gen. Musa stated, adding that both governments are cooperating to address IPOB’s violent activities in southern Nigeria.
