  • President Joe Biden Declares January 9 Mourning Day
  • He lived up to 100 years

President Joe Biden has officially declared January 9 a national day of mourning to honor the life and legacy of former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at the age of 100 in his hometown of Plains, Georgia, on Sunday.

In a heartfelt proclamation issued by the White House, Biden urged Americans to come together in their places of worship to pay tribute to the 39th President of the United States.

He also extended an invitation to the global community to join in this solemn occasion of remembrance.

“I call on the American people to assemble on that day in their respective places of worship, there to pay homage to the memory of President James Earl Carter, Jr.,” Biden declared. “I invite the people of the world who share our grief to join us in this solemn observance.”

Jimmy Carter was widely admired not only for his tenure as President but also for his decades-long commitment to humanitarian causes and the promotion of global peace. A Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Carter championed diplomacy, human rights, and conflict resolution, leaving an indelible mark on the world stage.

Born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia, Carter’s journey from a peanut farmer to the highest office in the land remains a quintessential American story.

He served as Governor of Georgia before winning the presidency in 1976. During his time in office, Carter prioritized energy independence, environmental conservation, and peace efforts, including brokering the historic Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel in 1978.

Although his presidency lasted only one term, Carter’s post-presidential years elevated him to a revered global figure. Through the Carter Center, he dedicated his life to eradicating diseases, monitoring elections, and advocating for human rights worldwide. His Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 recognized his unparalleled contributions to fostering peace and alleviating suffering.

Carter’s death marks the end of a remarkable century-long life dedicated to service, compassion, and leadership.

He remained a beloved figure in his hometown of Plains, where he and his wife, Rosalynn, were active members of the community. The couple’s commitment to simplicity and humility resonated with people across the political spectrum.

President Biden’s proclamation reflects the immense respect and admiration held for Carter, both at home and abroad. January 9 will serve as a day for the nation and the world to honor a leader whose vision and values continue to inspire generations.
