Biden Invites Trump To Meet At White House Next Week

President Joe Biden will welcome President-elect Donald Trump to the Oval Office on Wednesday for a traditional postelection meeting, the White House announced on Saturday.

This meeting serves as part of America’s democratic tradition of a peaceful transfer of power, symbolizing cooperation between the outgoing and incoming presidents.

Notably, Trump did not hold this customary meeting with Biden after losing the 2020 election. However, following his successful bid for the presidency this year, Trump, a Republican, defeated Democrat Vice President Kamala Harris, becoming the first former president to reclaim office since Grover Cleveland in 1892.

The White House confirmed that Biden called Trump this past Wednesday to congratulate him on his victory and extend the invitation for an Oval Office visit.

In a speech Thursday, Biden said he had assured Trump “that I would direct my entire administration to work with his team to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition. That’s what the American people deserve.”
