Biden To Address UN General Assembly For First Time As US President

  • Unlike former president Donald Trump who was a harsh critic of the United Nations, Joe Biden believes that multilateralism and working together will help the United States (US) government.

Joe Biden will next week address the general assembly of the United Nations (UN) in New York. This will be his first time of doing this since he became United States (US) President.

Disclosing this development, White House said Biden had already been scheduled to travel to New York next week’s Tuesday, to speak at the assembly’s general debate.

Republican Donald Trump, Biden’s predecessor, was a harsh critic of the UN and advocated the US increasingly going it alone.

Biden, on the other hand, has relied increasingly on multilateralism and working together with other countries.

The Democrat has been in office since Wednesday, January 20.

Leaders from more than 80 countries are expected to speak in person in New York, in contrast to 2020, when the general assembly was largely conducted in a virtual format.

The coronavirus pandemic, including vaccination crisis, and climate change, are among the key topics expected to be discussed at the assembly this year.
