  • Singer wants Court to set aside Sharia court judgement

Yahaya Shari-Aminu, the musician that a Shari’a court in Kano sentenced to death for blasphemy is seeking the reversal of the judgement.

To this end, the singer has filed an appeal at the Kano state high court.

Shari-Aminu was sentenced to death by hanging on August 10, after he was found guilty of committing blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad in a song.

The development drew the ire of the public as many Nigerians condemned the verdict.

In spite of public outrage, the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria asked Kano state government to execute the court judgment.

Kano governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, had said he would not hesitate in signing Sharif-Aminu’s death sentence if he failed to file an appeal within 30 days.
