Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, widely known as Bobrisky, was born on August 31, 1991. She is a Nigerian social media personality, influencer and a self-claimed ‘Transgender’ woman.
Bobrisky is particularly known for her strong presence on social media platforms such as Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram, where she has built a massive following.
In 2021, she went viral on TikTok with the creation of the “bobrisky” dance, further cementing her status as an influential figure in the digital space.
Her journey began in Lagos, where she attended King’s High School and Okota High School for her secondary education. She later pursued higher education at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.
However, it wasn’t her academic achievements that brought her into the public eye; it was her decision to defy Nigeria’s conservative norms and her outspoken personality on social media that made her a household name.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Bobrisky became a controversial figure in Nigeria due to her unapologetic stance on gender identity and her open declaration of having a lover, assumed to be male, despite Nigeria’s strict laws against same-s*x relationships, which are punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
Her boldness attracted millions of followers on Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram, and she leveraged this attention to build a formidable online presence.
On July 8, 2021, She revealed a new physical appearance after undergoing surgery to become more feminine, a move that sparked widespread discussion both online and offline.
Despite the controversies surrounding her, She has been invited to speak at various events, though not without backlash. For instance, Bashir Ahmad, a Nigerian presidential aide, reportedly walked out of a premises upon seeing Bobrisky.
EKO HOT BLOG gathered that Her name has also been linked with other Nigerian celebrities, including actress Tonto Dikeh, adding to her notoriety and influence in the entertainment industry.
However, Bobrisky’s journey has not been without legal troubles. In April 2024, she was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly defacing naira banknotes, a crime that carries a maximum penalty of six months in prison.
This arrest came after videos surfaced showing Her throwing money into the air at a film premiere, leading to an investigation. She pleaded guilty to four counts of currency abuse on April 5, 2024, and was subsequently sentenced to six months in prison without the option of a fine. After serving her sentence, Bobrisky was released on August 5, 2024.
She remains a polarizing figure in Nigeria, celebrated by some for her bravery in challenging societal norms and criticized by others for her flamboyant lifestyle and legal issues.
Her influence and impact on Nigerian pop culture and social media are undeniable, making her one of the most talked-about personalities in the country.
Bobrisky’s Net Worth
Bobrisky, a prominent social media personality, has publicly claimed to be a millionaire, revealing that she holds over ₦40 million in two of her active bank accounts.
