The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has officially confirmed the suspension of several senior officers, including Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) Michael Anugwa, over ethical violations related to the custody of crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, at the Kirikiri Medium Security Custodial Centre, Lagos.
The confirmation follows DCC Anugwa’s denial of his suspension during a parliamentary inquiry in Abuja on Monday, where he contradicted a directive issued by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in response to the controversy, NCoS spokesperson ACC Abubakar Umar issued a statement late Monday, clarifying that the suspension had been properly communicated to the officers involved.
Umar stated that the suspensions, which were effective from September 26, 2024, were part of ongoing investigations into misconduct at various custodial centers.
“The attention of the Nigerian Correctional Service has been drawn to a trending video of one of its senior officers claiming the Service had not served him a letter of suspension as directed by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB).
The Service views this as gross misconduct aimed at misleading the public,” Umar stated.
He confirmed that four officers, including DCC Sikiru Adekunle (Officer-in-Charge of the Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri), DCC Michael Anugwa (Officer-in-Charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri), DCC Kevin Ikechukwu Iloafonsi (Officer-in-Charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, FCT), and ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna (Medium Security Custodial Centre, Abakiliki, Ebonyi State), were suspended.
The suspension letters were issued by the CDCFIB under reference numbers CDCFIB/NCOS/DISP/016/VOL.II/16 and CDCFIB/NCOS/DISP/016/VOL.II/17, both dated September 26, 2024.
Umar reassured the public that the NCoS would conduct thorough investigations and ensure that any individuals found culpable would face appropriate sanctions in line with Public Service Rules and other applicable laws.
