Body Of Permanent Secretaries From Epe Division Donates Blood Screening Machine To Epe General Hospital
A blood transfusion is a common, safe medical procedure in which healthy blood is given to patients through an intravenous (IV) line that has been inserted in one of the blood vessels.
The blood carries oxygen and nutrients to all parts of the body. Blood transfusions replace blood that is lost through surgery or injury.
One may need a blood transfusion if one have anaemia, sickle cell disease, a bleeding disorder such as haemophilia, or cancer. For people in critical condition, blood transfusions can be lifesaving.
It is on this note that a body of Permanent Secretaries from Epe Division donated a 4th Generation Blood Screening Machine to the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service for onward transmission to Epe General Hospital, today, 16th of June, 2020.
The event which took place at Folarin Coker Clinic, The Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, was well attended by stakeholders in the health sector, various youth bodies from Epe division such as; Concerned NationBuilders Initiative (CNI) EYDRP, NYCN, EDERC and the media.
In her opening remarks, the Executive Secretary, Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service, Dr Oshikomaya, Said that the mission of the ministry has always been to get safe blood when needed by members of the public.

According to her, It was three years ago, that the authority got to know about Epe General Hospital not having blood screening machine.
“It is quite unfortunate that blood screening has to be done at Ikorodu all the way from Epe. In conformity with the law which states that every blood must be screened, this is a dream come true.
“We did our best to make budgetary provisions for the machine and as we know the government can’t do everything alone, “she said.
The program proceeded with a short speech presented by the Permanent Secretary, Audit Service Commission, Bar. Sesan Ogundeko tagged ” The Journey so Far”.
The short speech was an expression of what transpired in Epe General Hospital and how the youths engaged their leaders productively on how to rescue the situation.
The collaborative effort, therefore, culminated into the prompt response from the body of Permanent Secretaries from Epe division.
According to the astute Lawyer, ” The Lagos state government has done a lot in improving health care.
Lagos health institutions is a role model in the nation and across Africa. The needs of the people are numerous and can not be done by government alone. If we all play our parts, the society will be better.
“Epe Youths, CNI, EYDRP and NYCN are playing their roles. They identified the need of the society, keep track of what’s happening in health, education and other sectors and brought the elders’ attention to the needs by making a passionate plea.
“If not for them, the need won’t be met today, ” he said.
The Epe born Lawyer also showered encomiums on the Medical Director of Epe General hospital for creating a platform for interaction with youths and elders in the community and also for drawing the attention of everyone to issues in the hospital.
According to him, the body of Permanent Secretaries in Epe Division heard the cry of the people in the community and responded by contributing money to buy the equipment for the people’s benefit.
Members of the body of Permanent Secretaries include Mrs. Deile, Mrs Adekanye, Dr Onasanya, Mrs Fadipe, Mrs Ogunnubi, Mrs Titi Solarin, Dr Muritala, Mr Musa, Mr Osiefa and Bar. Ogundeko.
In his remark, Hon. Adeniyi Saliu, Chairman, Eredo LCDA, praised the very rare youthful leadership qualities of Mr Idris Tele-Olukoya and Mr Mark Osifeko.
The chairman commended the youth leaders for channelling their issues properly.
“This is not the first time the body of Permanent secretaries from Epe Division are supporting the community.
“I thank you all for contributing the sum of one hundred thousand naira each for COVID-19 palliative distribution for the people in the community.
“I am so happy that, Epe, with over eighty communities, has gotten a lifesaver in the blood screening machine, “he said.
Saliu, therefore, pleaded with the community-development oriented body to form a solid alliance with the political class in order to improve communities in Epe.
Also, the Medical Director of Epe General Hospital, Dr Mustapha S.B, described the hospital as long-neglected despite catering for health care of people from Ijebu-Ode and Ajah.
His claim was backed up when he began detailing the many needs of the hospital.
He said that the maternal and child care centre (MCC) is still on 70% completion since 2012. Three other structures are yet to be completed.
“The health facility of Lagos status has no power. We need government support to provide electricity. Safe, qualitative health delivery needs power, ” he said.
The passionate MD pleaded with the government to link up Epe General Hospital, a regional hospital, where people come from as far as Ondo and Oyo states to access basic healthcare, to the national grid.
He also appealed to the government to fix all road networks leading to Epe.
Dr Mustapha enjoined Chairmen from the division to emulate the kind gestures of the body of permanent secretaries.
The event rounded up with the presentation of the Blood Screening Machine by Mrs Helen Deile, Auditor-General and Chairman, Permanent Secretaries Forum, Epe Division, to the Epe General Hospital Medical Director.
She noted that the gesture was a strategy to key into the THEMES agenda of the Lagos state government.
She also thanked her colleagues for rising up to the occasion.
“Let us know your needs, we will do it. I hope the blood screening machine will be judiciously used, maintained and monitored”, she said.
Earlier, Mr Idris Tele-Olukoya appreciated the body of Permanent Secretaries from Epe Division for their kind gestures.
He said that, ” as Oliver Twist, we crave for more gratuity from the permanent secretary for the betterment of the community.
Tele-Olukoya, on behalf of the Epe youths and other associations in Epe Division, thanked the permanent secretaries for extending to them an olive branch and prayed to God to reward them abundantly so as to do more for the community.
