Eko Hot Blog reports that Drambi Vandi, the Police officer who allegedly shot a female lawyer called Bolanle Raheem, faced remand proceedings at the Yaba Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
The state’s Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed the development via his Twitter page on Friday afternoon.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the Attorney-General of Lagos state, Moyosore Onigbanjo, led the prosecution.
The state’s chief law officer filed a one-count charge of unlawful killing against Vandi, an assistant superintendent of police, for Raheem’s murder.
“That you ASP DRAMBI VANDI (M) on the 25th day of December 2022 at Ajah Round About along Lekki-Epe Express Way, Lagos within the Lagos State Magisterial District unlawfully killed one OMOBOLANLE RAHEEM (F) by shooting the deceased in the chest contrary to Section 223 of the Criminal Law Ch. C17 Vol. 3 Laws of Lagos State, 2015,” the charge sheet reads.
The attorney-general, who appeared before the court applied for the remand of the defendant pursuant to Section 264 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos, 2015.
He told Olatunbosun that the basis for the remand is to allow the police conclude its investigations into the matter.
The magistrate granted the request to remand the defendant at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre and ordered that the case file be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecution, Dr. Jide Martins for legal advice.
She consequently adjourned to January 30, 2023, to await legal advice.
