EKO HOT BLOG reports that the spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Deputy Controller of Corrections Abubakar Umar, made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja.
According to Umar, the jailbreak occurred around 2:00 a.m. on May 20, 2025, following heavy rainfall which compromised the facility’s security infrastructure. He confirmed that seven inmates fled during the incident, prompting an immediate and extensive manhunt by the NCoS and other security agencies.
To fast-track the recapture process, the Service is offering a cash reward of ₦5 million for any useful tip-off that leads to the arrest of any of the fugitives. Umar urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to the nearest security agency.
“In order to encourage public participation, the Nigerian Correctional Service wishes to inform the general public that a reward of ₦5 million is being offered to anyone who provides useful information that leads to the recapture of the fleeing inmates,” the statement read.
He added that all information shared will be treated with the utmost confidentiality and anonymity to protect informants.
For reports and inquiries, the public is encouraged to contact the NCoS through the following channels:
