The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has reported a tragic road accident that occurred on Tuesday at the Iyana Ishasi U-turn, heading towards Mile 2. The accident involved a Howo tipper truck, which had no registration details.
Initial investigations revealed that the truck, while speeding through traffic, experienced a sudden brake failure. This caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle completely.
Unfortunately, the truck veered off the road and hit a pedestrian walking along the roadside, leading to the person’s immediate death.
Officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and LASTMA quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation. They worked together to handle the accident efficiently.
Security officers from the Ishasi Police Division also provided support to ensure the rescue operation was carried out without further issues.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, expressed his deep sadness over the incident. He offered his condolences to the grieving family and prayed for them to find strength during this difficult time. He also urged drivers to always prioritize safety to prevent similar tragedies.
Bakare-Oki emphasized the importance of proper vehicle maintenance and following traffic rules. He reminded motorists that these precautions are necessary to avoid accidents and save lives.
LASTMA remains dedicated to improving road safety, managing traffic effectively, and reducing accidents in Lagos State.
