  • A 14-year-old girl has become Kano Governor.

EKOHOTBLOG reports that a 14-year-old girl, Atika Aminu Yankaba, assumed office as the governor of Kano State on Monday.

Yankaba became the governor of the state for 20 minutes on Monday to mark the 2021 International Girl Child Day organized between High-Level Women Advocacy and UNICEF

Speaking after taking over power from Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, the teenager convened a State Executive Council meeting with her new cabinet members, with issues of girl child education taking centre stage.

Yankaba, while presiding over the council meeting, said Kano State needs more funds to build more classes, employ more teachers and give priority to ICT education.

She added that her administration will supply sanitary pads and other girls’ needs to have a sound education.

Earlier, Governor Ganduje said he was handing over the government to the 14-year-old girl willingly, adding that, “I’m coming back as soon as possible”.

“During my absence, I witnessed how you ran the government and it was excellent, the executive council meeting was done marvelously, with all the commissioners contributing wonderfully,” Ganduje said.

EKOHOTBLOG reports that Yankaba became the governor of Kano State at 12:00 pm before handing it back to Governor Ganduje at 12:20 pm.
