Published

on

At least seven people have been reportedly killed and four children missing after armed bandits attacked Jema’a Local Government Area in Southern Kaduna.

The assailants are said to have ambushed residents in Ungwan Bido village shortly before dawn on Sunday, two witnesses told Peoples Gazette. Many residents have fled the village in the wake of the attack.

“They entered the village on motorcycles and killed about seven people,” villager Bulus Gyang told the Gazette. “Children are also still missing and we could not yet say for sure whether they were abducted or not.”

Eko Hot Blog gathered that several attempts have been made to reach the spokesman for the police in Kaduna, but all efforts in this direction have proved abortive.

The Southern part of Kaduna has been a hotspot for banditry activities in recent memory; and, despite several assurances by Governor Nasir el-Rufai to contain this banditry activity, has continued to experience more madness and mayhem.

The rationale behind this latest attack remains unclear. It also further exacerbates the security woes currently generating general unrest in Northern Nigeria, with the slaughter of 43 rice farmers in Borno state by insurgents still renting the air at this time.
