EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Academic Staff Union of Universities has decided to extend its ongoing strike after hours of heated discussions.
The decision was taken after the National Executive Council meeting at the union’s headquarters at the University of Abuja on Monday morning.
The meeting which began late Sunday at the University of Abuja’s headquarters of ASUU, ended early Monday morning with the resolution that the strike be extended.
This online news platform had earlier reported that the union was deliberating on an indefinite strike but decided to further extend the strike.
A member of the NEC, who preferred anonymity told journalists that most local congresses voted for a strike extension.
“We expect nothing less. Most of the congresses voted for an indefinite strike. The NEC takes decisions based on the reports from branches,” he said.
Another member said, “I can confidently tell you that majority of ASUU branches across the country voted for an indefinite strike. Over 90% voted for an indefinite strike.“
Recall that ASUU had declared the commencement of the strike on Monday, February 14, 2022.
